What Is Atenolol?
Atenolol belongs to a class of medications known as beta blockers. It primarily blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors in the heart, which can decrease heart rate and reduce the workload placed on the heart.
Atenolol is FDA-approved in tablet form for certain cardiovascular indications, including hypertension and angina pectoris, and for use in appropriate patients following acute myocardial infarction.
Your healthcare provider will determine whether atenolol is appropriate for you and prescribe the appropriate dose and treatment schedule.
Important Information
Atenolol can lower heart rate and blood pressure. Tell your healthcare provider about your medical conditions and all prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements you take.
Contact your healthcare provider if you experience concerning symptoms such as an unusually slow heartbeat, fainting, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
Keep out of reach of children.
